"A Lifetime of Innovative Digital Leadership in Tourism and Hospitality"
After more than 60 years in marketing and over 50 years in the hospitality and tourism industry, my career stands as proof that innovation and adaptability are not just buzzwords, they're survival tools. Even in retirement, I remain an active force in global tourism promotion, especially for Jamaica, the island that shaped a major chapter of my professional life.
My entry into digital tourism marketing began in 1994 in Maine, when the internet was still new territory for most businesses. I seized this opportunity to become one of the first Internet Hospitality and Tourism Marketing Consultants, helping local enterprises tap into a digital world before it was mainstream.
In 2001, I semi-retired and moved to Jamaica, which turned out to be more of a rebirth than a slowdown. From my base in the Negril area, I spent nearly two decades using technology to support and spotlight Jamaican tourism. I built and managed Jamaican Taxi and Tour websites, published 10 Jamaican Travel Guides, and launched the Jamaican Business & Tourism Directory, creating resources that empowered small operators and gave tourists better ways to explore the island.
Since returning to the U.S. and settling in Tennessee at the end of 2020, my commitment hasn’t wavered. I’ve added two more travel guides to the collection, bringing the total to 12, and continued to manage and grow an expansive network of 92 Facebook Groups and Pages dedicated to tourism, Jamaican culture, and local business promotion.
Throughout my career, I’ve worn many hats. As a restaurant owner, I lived the daily realities of the hospitality industry. As President of the Old Orchard Beach Chamber of Commerce (two terms), Board Member of the Maine Restaurant Association, and appointee to the Maine Tourism Commission, I helped shape policy and champion local economic growth. These leadership roles gave me a comprehensive perspective, from grassroots service to strategic development.
In Jamaica, I joined the Negril Chamber of Commerce, where I served as a director and played an active role in local tourism initiatives and digital advocacy. My work helped bridge traditional tourism practices with modern, tech-driven solutions, always focused on enhancing visitor experience and promoting sustainable local growth.
Now retired, but far from idle, I continue to be a vocal and visible advocate for Jamaica and global tourism innovation. My life's work reflects a rare blend of hands-on hospitality, visionary digital marketing, and unwavering community commitment. From Old Orchard Beach to Negril, from print guides to social media networks, my mission remains the same: helping destinations thrive through smart, strategic promotion rooted in experience, technology, and genuine passion.
